Third Party Candidates With SuperPacs May Affect Race

NBC News - 08/31/2012

Names like Gary Johnson and Virgil Goode may not register with many planning to vote in this year's 2012 Presidential elections, however now that third party candidates have SuperPac backings they may prove to be problematic for Romney and Obama in key swing states. While many of the polls conducted don't even offer the option of third party candidates like Johnson, in recent polls that do they show that they could take away meaningful percentages in individual states. Johnson was shown in an early summer poll to receive 12 percent of the vote in his home state of New Mexico. These small cracks in voting percentages could prove problematic for Mitt Romney and Barack Obama who need all the electoral votes they can muster to earn the necessary 270.
