Who Will Fill Jim DeMint's Senate Seat?

Republican Jim DeMint of South Carolina has chosen to resign his Senate seat in the middle of his term to move to the leadership of the Heritage Foundation. His resignation leaves Governor Nikki Haley, one of the most unpopular governors in the country according to recent Public Policy Polling results, with the decision of appointing a new Senate member.

Among 520 South Carolinians polled December 7 to December 9, Stephen Colbert tops the wish list at 20% regarding who voters would like to see fill the vacant seat. Tim Scott follows at 15% and 14% of voters want Trey Gowdy to join the Senate. But, replacing DeMint with Colbert could be a possible path back to popularity for Haley. Read More
