What was viewed as a humanitarian victory by organizations such as Human Rights Watch, now is being seen as a potentially dangerous situation as the safety of Guangcheng cannot be guaranteed. The Chinese government is highly critical of the United States interference in this matter and are asking for a full apology. The State Department has made no such indication that an apology will be made, but has stated that this incident was highly unique and will likely not be repeated.
