In what Reuters is calling "further evidence the housing market is gaining steam," reports now show sales of single-family homes have hit the fastest pace since April 2010. Sales rose 5.7 percent in September from August, at an annual rate of 389,000.

The U.S Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development report sales are up 27.1 percent from September 2011.
